The Festival of Opportunities for Disabled People

Established in 1999, Ability Fest has become the No.1 annual event which offers unique benefits to the disabled community, employers and support organisations in Glasgow and the West of Scotland and surrounding areas.

Ability Fest celebrates its 10th year in 2009 with Ability Fest 2009 being it's 9th event. The annual AGM is held to discuss the past year; report on the last event, promote partnerships and identify the new committee. Should you wish to receive an invite to this AGM please contact the Event Coordinator.

Ability Fest 2009 are very excited to be hosting this years event at SECC Glasgow. The venue was chosen to ensure that accessibility is addressed and that even more organisations can be involved - therefore providing a diverse cocktail of services to our disabled community.

The event's aims are:

  • To promote Equality Opportunities and Inclusion by raising awareness about disability issues within training, employment, education and life long learning;
  • To help disabled people identify services available to them from equipment organisations;
  • To provide a networking opportunity for agencies and organisations that offer support to disabled people;
  • To connect disabled people with a wide range of support organisations and employers;
  • To introduce volunteering and leisure activities.

Ability Fest continue to work closely with Glasgow City Council, Executive Member for Equalities, Councilor Irfan Rabanni who has worked tirelessly on our behalf with the 2008 event and will be working with us again for the 2009 event to help us raise sufficient funds and raise our profile.

"I am pleased to have had the opportunity to be involved and assist the tremendous efforts of the Committee. Ability Fest is, and should remain, an integral fixture in Glasgow's "inclusive events" calendar. It is a unique facilitator, providing disabled people with access to information and services and allows services to engage and learn from their client group." (Councillor Irfan Rabbani, Glasgow City Council, Executive Member for Equalities)

Ability Fest are also delighted that Heather O'Brien of the Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living (GCIL) will again be the Coordinator and face of Ability Fest in 2009. This follows a successful bid from GCIL to take on coordination of the event. We hope that 2009 will be even more successful than 2008 with it's venue being SECC Glasgow October 29th 2009.
